Brief history of La Rinconada

The house was built over the ruins of an old Tannery, given the use of two water springs right in front of the house, which used to spill the water down hill and created a mud trap (atascadero) where the name of the area came from. This is the area where the affluent Americans live and walk down the cobble stone roads to gather at the main Jardin and listen to the mariachis. This house is frequently asked to be in one of the House and Garden tours to show because of its charm.

The house wasowned by a very famouse painter Jose Chavez Morado, considered by many as good or better than Diego Rivera. Jose's wife planted the beautiful "white Zapote tree" more than 80 years old in the main court yard, which creates a mgnificent Tocany Ambiance perfect for afternoon dinners acompanied by music, wine and cigars.

The house was sold to four couples from Chicago, who were cord instrument players, and together with Mr. Sterling Dickinson initiated the August Festival of Chamber Music every year.

Recomendations

There is a lot of walking in cobble stone streets, so a good pair of thick tennis shoes is highly recommended. A hat will be pretty cool for your walking style, and no high heals for ladies.

The house has a Quad which is very handy for parking down town. Days are warm but nights are cool, especially in winter time. The house is smoke free in the rooms and in the inclosed areas.

There are plenty of flights from the US into Leon and Queretaro airports, and shuttle transportation to San Miguel for about one hour.
